International (including EU) students

As a prospective international student or offer holder, we understand you may have concerns about coronavirus (Covid-19) and the potential impact on your studies at the University of York. We'd like to reassure you that we're here to provide the support and advice you need to make your move to the University of York as smooth as possible.

Our shared sense of community and compassion puts our students at the very heart of our University. As we approach September 2022 we will continue to follow official advice and adapt our response as and when the situation evolves.

For more information please see:

We would also advise you to continue monitoring the UK government travel guidelines, (gov.uk) as restrictions may change.

Latest updates

To support international students joining us in 2021 we put in place the following supportive measures. Arrangements for 2022/3 will be confirmed as the situation develops.

  • We offered financial support to help with the cost of mandatory testing or quarantine required under government rules for entry into the UK.

  • We refunded the deposit in full for students unable to take their place at York for reasons related to Covid-19.

  • We offered online teaching for students unable to get to York for the start of the term.

  • We've moved most of the January 2022 assessments online to minimise disruption during the assessment period.

Vaccinations

Currently, anybody aged 18 or over in the UK is eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination free of charge, regardless of their nationality or immigration status. Vaccination status is not a requirement for you taking up your offer and we will have vaccination clinics on campus throughout Autumn Term. You will be eligible to receive your first or second vaccination, no matter which country you are from.

Tuition fee deposits and CAS for international postgraduate taught offer-holders

If you’re an offer holder for a postgraduate taught course you may have to pay a deposit to confirm your place and receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

If you’re unable to take up your place at York for reasons relating to Covid-19 we’ll refund your deposit in full. We understand that you may also prefer to wait before making your final decision about your study plans, given the current situation.
