Emergency Student Support Fund - open for applications

Dear student,

I am pleased to tell you that the next round of the Emergency Student Support Fund (ESSF) is now open for applications. This fund provides short-term financial support of up to £500 for students’ unanticipated needs due to COVID-19.

All current students who are fully-registered at the University of York on a degree-awarding programme (UG, PGT or PGR, full or part-time) are eligible to apply, including students who have received ESSF awards earlier this year.

The new ESSF round opened on Thursday 12 November 2020 at 12pm and will close on Tuesday 24 November at 12pm. There will be a mid-point review on Tuesday 17 November at 12pm so that early applications that are successful can receive payment as quickly as possible.

Visit the ESSF web page for further information about the fund and to submit an application.

And, if you are finding things difficult, I’d like to remind you of all the support available.

  • Togetherall, an anonymous 24/7 online global community with support from trained professionals, is available to all University of York students.

  • There are lots of people on campus ready and willing to help. You can talk to your college team, the student hub or your academic supervisor.

  • The Students’ Unions, YUSU and GSA both have advice teams.

For more information about the support available both on campus and off, visit the Help and Support web page.

I’d also like to thank you for your continued cooperation with the national lockdown and, if you haven’t already seen it, encourage you to take a look at how to make the most of lockdown life.

Best wishes

Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor
