Local restrictions affecting York

Dear colleagues,

We have been advised by City of York Council that the Government has announced that York is being placed into the high level (Level 2). This means more restrictions, including on households mixing indoors, from 00:01hrs (midnight) Saturday 17 October. This change aligns York with other parts of northern England and the Midlands, but also London and other parts of South East England which are also joining Level 2.

Please familiarise yourself with the guidance and information about Level 2.

As I outlined in my email yesterday, we are keeping the situation under review by working very closely with the City Council Public Health team, the local NHS and other HE/FE institutions in the City. Further meetings are scheduled for tomorrow and early next week, and as part of those discussions we will consider our current working arrangements on campus and the risk mitigations we have in place.

We know this new situation may have an impact on some of our services and our campus, but I want to reassure our community that we have robust plans in place: students can still access all key services and staff can continue to be on campus if you are required to be on site.

Students can still socialise with people they live with, either in private accommodation or campus residences, and participate in the social activities provided on campus, so long as they remain in their household. We are writing to students today with an update as well.

As always, please read our Covid-19 website for our latest advice and guidance, including action we need to take to keep each other safe. Thank you to everyone who is working hard to support each other in these difficult times.

Best wishes,

Charlie
