Welcome back, with three things to do

Dear students,

I'm writing to wish you all a happy New Year and welcome you back as the term begins. I hope you've all enjoyed a restful break and time with family and friends.

Many of you will be taking assessments in the coming weeks, so I'd also like to wish you good luck with these; they're an opportunity to demonstrate - to yourself, as well as to your lecturers - what you've learnt so far.

As you'll be aware, the steep rise in Omicron cases means that we must take every precaution we can to protect one another from the virus.

We also want to do all we can to ensure that the full range of University activities can continue in-person. To help with this, we ask all our students to play their part by doing three things:

  • Get boosted - if you're over 18 and had your second jab more than three months ago, you can book online for a booster jab. You can also book online, or visit a walk-in vaccination centre, if you haven't had your first or second dose yet.

For students on campus-based programmes, it is really important to let us know your vaccine status by completing our census, which will be shared with you this week.

  • Test regularly - please keep testing regularly. You should be able to order lateral flow tests online for delivery or to collect from a local pharmacy or you can pick them up at our on-campus test site and College receptions. Please test twice a week and follow the guidance to self-isolate if you have a positive test. By testing regularly, even if you are fully vaccinated, you are helping to keep our whole community safe.

  • Wear your face covering - we've updated our face coverings policy in response to Omicron. When you're on campus, you must now wear a face covering, unless exempt, when moving about indoors, including in teaching sessions.

Best wishes,

Charlie
